About the position

The Senior Manager Product Owner at Discover Financial Services plays a pivotal role in leading the development of the Product Vision at the Family level, which is essential for driving business value and enhancing customer experience. This position requires a deep understanding of product management, allowing the Senior Manager to identify patterns and trends without needing to dissect every detail. Recognized for their contributions to the profession, the Senior Manager acts as a servant leader, managing team members while actively addressing risks and customer-impacting issues in their daily operations. In this role, the Senior Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining the Family Product vision by collaborating with stakeholders on key product considerations. This involves aligning product features and roadmaps with business unit goals, leveraging customer insights, financial data, compliance, and risk metrics to define product features. The Senior Manager leads the design, development, and implementation of new product strategies, working cross-functionally to manage shared goals and priorities. The Senior Manager establishes Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) for the product team, ensuring alignment with senior leadership. They are responsible for defining and creating prototypes based on customer feedback to validate ideas before committing to larger-scale development. Additionally, they oversee the entire product lifecycle, from strategy and roadmap definition to development and market readiness, while supervising product professionals and working with minimal supervision. The role also includes validating user story acceptance criteria, ensuring appropriate testing frameworks for product features, and collaborating with data stewards to implement necessary data quality controls. The Senior Manager monitors and analyzes key product performance metrics, providing strategic recommendations for performance improvements throughout the product lifecycle. They mentor team members, negotiate across shared services, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and execute go-to-market strategies. Furthermore, they partner with business technology to outline technical features required for system optimization and infrastructure maintenance, fostering a culture of accountability and ownership within the product team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of the Product Vision at the Family level to drive business value and improve customer experience.
  • Manage and escalate risk and customer-impacting issues in day-to-day operations.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and maintain the Family Product vision, aligning it with product features and roadmaps.
  • Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) for the product team, ensuring alignment with senior leadership.
  • Define and create prototypes based on customer feedback to validate ideas before larger-scale development.
  • Oversee the entire product lifecycle from strategy and roadmap definition to development and market readiness.
  • Validate user story acceptance criteria and ensure appropriate testing frameworks for product features.
  • Monitor and analyze key product performance metrics and provide strategic recommendations for performance improvements.
  • Mentor team members and fill in business and technical knowledge gaps.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and execute go-to-market strategies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field such as Business, Product Management, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in product management or a related field.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams and mentoring team members.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain product vision and strategy.
  • Experience in defining and measuring KPIs and OKRs for product teams.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to analyze data and make strategic recommendations based on findings.
