About the position

The Senior Manager, Public Affairs (Public Relations) at Abbott Laboratories is responsible for driving public relations programs, integrated marketing campaigns, and storytelling for Abbott's Lingo business. This role involves collaborating with senior leadership, managing high-profile projects, and executing successful PR and communications strategies to enhance the company's reputation and advance business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Director, Public Affairs to set and drive PR strategy and storytelling for Abbott's Lingo business.
  • Develop and execute external public relations strategies for key product launches and awareness programs.
  • Create compelling thought leadership and consumer-focused storylines for Abbott's innovation pipeline.
  • Manage integrated, insights-led campaigns to maintain Abbott's leadership in consumer biowearables.
  • Work with top-tier reporters to enhance and protect the company's reputation.
  • Provide strategic counsel to business leaders and stakeholders across the organization.
  • Develop multimedia, content, and social strategies to complement key PR campaigns.
  • Oversee the development of messages, press materials, and other communications tools.
  • Identify and anticipate issues, counseling management on reputation and business impact.
  • Media train and coach business leaders on key message delivery.
  • Set metrics to measure the effectiveness of public relations efforts.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, communications, business, marketing or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in public relations, media relations, and/or communications.
  • Experience working on thought leadership and corporate reputation programs.
  • Strong experience in developing compelling content and communications materials.
  • Consistent track record of excellent writing, communications, and project management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in consumer, healthcare, and/or technology communications.
  • Strong contacts with media and proven ability in placing media stories.
  • Experience in crisis communication and anticipatory thinking.
  • Ability to influence and partner cross-functionally in a matrixed organization.
