About the position

As a key player in Centene's mission to transform the health of our communities, you will manage and execute media and public relations efforts for Corporate products, regional health plans, and other subsidiaries. This role involves providing strategic communication counsel and guidance to subsidiaries within assigned regions, focusing on proactive public relations initiatives and effective issues management. You will oversee Public Relations for Markets and Product subsidiaries, ensuring that all public relations activities align with corporate objectives and receive the necessary review and approval from senior management. In addition to managing public relations efforts, you will monitor and analyze trends within Centene, the healthcare industry, and competitive landscapes that may impact the organization. Based on your findings, you will recommend and implement action plans to address any potential challenges or opportunities. Your responsibilities will also include overseeing Corporate Public Relations efforts related to national programs, mergers and acquisitions, and business development activities. As a leader in this department, you will manage staff, including hiring, performance management, and career development, ensuring that the team is aligned with defined goals and objectives. Your expertise in media relations, public relations, and communications will be crucial in driving the success of Centene's public relations strategy and enhancing the organization's reputation in the healthcare sector.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and execute media and public relations efforts for Corporate products, regional health plans, and other subsidiaries.
  • Provide strategic communication counsel and guidance to subsidiaries within assigned regions.
  • Oversee Public Relations for Markets and Product subsidiaries.
  • Manage the review and approval process between subsidiaries and corporate senior management for public relations activities.
  • Monitor and analyze Centene, industry, and competitive trends that impact the organization.
  • Recommend and implement action plans based on trend analysis.
  • Oversee Corporate Public Relations efforts related to national programs, M&A activities, and business development activities.
  • Manage department staff including hiring, performance management, and career development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • 6+ years of experience in media relations, public relations, or communications.
  • Experience working in a managed care, insurance, or healthcare environment preferred.
