About the position

AM General is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to lead a team of purchasing professionals. This role is pivotal in managing day-to-day activities and serving as the primary interface between the Supply Chain Management (SCM) team and senior management. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and selecting suppliers and vendors based on their capabilities, reliability, cost-effectiveness, and quality of goods. Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers is essential, fostering collaborative partnerships that enhance the procurement process. In this position, you will perform and document complex cost and price analyses to ensure fair and reasonable price determination, utilizing a robust purchasing process. You will work closely with team members to ensure that contract files are complete and meet Government/Customer requirements, thereby maintaining SCM's approved Cost Estimating and Purchasing Systems. A thorough understanding of cost and supplier data in a Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR)/Government environment is crucial for success in this role. You will drive the achievement of deliverables through a team-oriented approach, effectively managing resources and leveraging team member strengths to optimize performance. Promoting high standards through personal example and ensuring that each team member understands expectations will be a key part of your leadership. Additionally, you will conduct benchmarking studies to determine best practices for products, processes, and supply chain strategies, continuously monitoring market trends and technological advancements to identify opportunities for improvement and cost savings. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including finance, operations, and legal, will be necessary to ensure seamless integration and coordination of purchasing activities. You will also develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the effectiveness of value capture initiatives and track progress towards financial goals. Leading or supporting business case development for strategic initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions, partnerships, and new market entry, will be part of your responsibilities. Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and internal teams, will be essential to identify opportunities for collaboration and value creation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of purchasing professionals and provide guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback.
  • Program manage and lead day-to-day activities while acting as the interface between the SCM team and senior management.
  • Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers and vendors based on their capabilities, reliability, cost-effectiveness, and quality of goods.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, fostering collaborative partnerships.
  • Perform and document complex cost and price analyses to ensure fair and reasonable price determination utilizing robust purchasing process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or equivalent required (CPSM/CPM, and/or MBA preferred).
  • 5 years of professional military/government purchasing experience.
  • 5 years managerial and employee development experience.
  • Demonstrated performance in working with and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated performance in purchasing, commodity management, and strategic sourcing.
  • Analytical thinking, negotiating, and problem-solving skills required.
  • Strong skills in communication, presentation, analysis, and team rapport with the ability to be flexible and adapt to change.
  • Technical understanding of main vehicle components.
  • Self-motivated and results-driven, with the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
