About the position

The Senior Manager, Safeguards & Security Protective Force Operations at Sandia National Laboratories is a leadership role responsible for overseeing a diverse team of security professionals dedicated to national security. This position involves developing and implementing security programs, managing budgets and schedules, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The role requires strong leadership skills, the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of professionalism in security operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to managers and members of the workforce within the group.
  • Lead and coordinate activities concerning employee recruitment, selection, and training.
  • Assess employee performance, define work assignments, and address salary requirements.
  • Manage and coordinate specific deliverables, overall program and project plans, budgets, structures, schedules, and staffing requirements.
  • Provide active leadership over the operational management of a unionized 24/7/365 Protective Force.
  • Lead investigations related to accidents or unusual incidents and institute preventive measures.
  • Implement policies, procedures, and systems for maintaining and enhancing security.
  • Plan and coordinate a diverse range of activities and new initiatives within the group.
  • Collaborate with peers to develop strategic plans for safeguards and security functions.
  • Participate on multi-lab teams to improve alignment and communications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Criminology, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Engineering, Physical Sciences) plus ten years of related experience, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Five or more years of demonstrated leadership/managerial experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE Q-level security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree and five or more years' experience with DOE/Federal Agency program oversight.
  • Experience in Security functional areas such as International Travel, Personnel Security, Physical Security, Classification, or Information Protection.
  • Leadership experience implementing DOE Orders and requirements.
  • Demonstrated understanding of management assurance or quality systems.
  • Interpersonal skills for effective negotiation and trust-building with customers and partners.
  • Ability to manage tasks in a high ambiguity environment and establish a continuous improvement culture.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate employees and resolve conflicts.
  • Knowledge of problem-solving and resolution techniques.
  • Experience with data review focusing on continuous improvement.
