About the position

The Senior Manager, Site Reliability Engineering at BlackLine is responsible for leading a team that oversees the FedRamp operation, performance, and reliability of the Multi-Tenant BlackLine Accounts Receivable SaaS products. This role involves ensuring that the products and services are optimally planned and deployed, focusing on capacity planning, technical project execution, performance monitoring, site reliability, security, and software engineering. The successful candidate will manage a 24/7 SRE team, engage in incident response, and advocate for organizational change to enhance service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Improve the BlackLine SaaS service experience by identifying optimization opportunities in existing code or architectural design.
  • Develop tools and systems to automate the identification, analysis, and remediation of application events and infrastructure issues.
  • Manage incident response and deliver root cause analyses.
  • Oversee production operations, including day-to-day administration, security management, and initial response to system alerts.
  • Support continued certification to ISO 27001, ISO 9001, and SOC2 standards.
  • Advocate for change across the organization and ensure proper implementation with communications and metrics.
  • Partner with internal organizations and vendors to develop multi-year roadmaps for operating environment evolution.
  • Establish and maintain Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for service health and build tools to evaluate these KPIs.
  • Lead cross-functionally to address common pain points and establish best practices in application development and operations.
  • Maintain and evolve the BlackLine trust site for real-time availability and performance information.
  • Monitor and plan for capacity and growth, maintaining documentation and operational knowledge.

Requirements

  • Minimum 8+ years of industry experience.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, business, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Expertise in reliable and repeatable web application deployment and architecture.
  • Strong ownership and pride in work with the ability to complete projects.
  • Specialty in multi-page web apps, API integrations, monitoring/alerting, public cloud infrastructure management, distributed systems, cloud networking, or application security.
  • Hands-on problem-solving skills and experience in root cause analysis.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience managing end-to-end availability and performance of mission-critical services.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with HTML, CSS, XML, SOAP, Ajax, JavaScript, IIS, MSSQL, Jenkins, Chef, PowerShell, WMI, Java, SSL, Docker, Kubernetes, Azure DevOps.
  • Prior development experience in C#, ASP.NET, Ruby, Go, or Java, preferably in an agile SaaS environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure.
