About the position

As a Senior Manager of Software Engineering in the Back End team at Capital One, you will play a pivotal role in leading a diverse portfolio of technology projects. Your primary focus will be on managing a team of developers who possess deep expertise in distributed microservices and full stack systems. Together, you will create innovative solutions that address the regulatory needs of the company while enhancing customer experiences. You will be expected to engage in experimentation with new technologies and actively participate in both internal and external technology communities. Mentoring fellow engineers will also be a key aspect of your role, as you share your knowledge and experience with others in the engineering community. Your technical expertise will be crucial as you utilize programming languages such as Java, Python, SQL, Node, Go, and Scala, along with various database technologies including Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases. Additionally, you will leverage container orchestration services like Docker and Kubernetes, as well as a variety of AWS tools and services to drive impactful results. Responsibilities

  • Lead a portfolio of diverse technology projects and a team of developers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience (Internship experience does not apply).
  • At least 1 year of experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).
  • At least 4 years of people management experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in a relevant field.
  • 9+ years of experience in at least one of the following: Java, Scala, Python, Go, or Node.js.
  • 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service.
  • 4+ years of experience in open source frameworks.
  • 7+ years of people management experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in Agile practices.
