About the position

At Capital One, we are seeking a Senior Manager of Software Engineering specializing in Back End development within our Bank Tech division. This role is pivotal in leading a diverse portfolio of technology projects while managing a team of skilled developers. You will be at the forefront of driving significant transformations within Capital One, focusing on creating solutions that meet regulatory needs through distributed microservices and full-stack systems. Your leadership will guide the team in delivering robust cloud-based solutions that enhance customer experiences and empower millions of Americans financially. As a Senior Manager, you will not only lead but also share your passion for technology by staying updated on the latest trends, experimenting with new technologies, and participating in both internal and external tech communities. Mentoring fellow engineers will be a key part of your role, and you may occasionally be called upon to code or evaluate code. Collaboration with digital product managers will be essential as you work together to deliver impactful solutions that drive powerful user experiences. In this position, you will utilize a variety of programming languages and technologies, including Java, Python, SQL, Node, Go, and Scala, as well as Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases. You will also work with container orchestration services like Docker and Kubernetes, alongside various AWS tools and services. This role is designed for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative, and inclusive environment, and who is eager to tackle complex business challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a portfolio of diverse technology projects and a team of developers.
  • Create solutions that help meet regulatory needs for the company.
  • Stay on top of tech trends and experiment with new technologies.
  • Participate in internal and external technology communities.
  • Mentor other members of the engineering community.
  • Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions.
  • Utilize programming languages and technologies such as Java, Python, SQL, Node, Go, and Scala.
  • Work with Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience (Internship experience does not apply).
  • At least 1 year of experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).
  • At least 4 years of people management experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in a relevant field.
  • 9+ years of experience in at least one of the following: Java, Scala, Python, Go, or Node.js.
  • 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service.
  • 4+ years of experience in open source frameworks.
  • 7+ years of people management experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in Agile practices.
