About the position

As a Senior Manager of Software Engineering at Capital One, you will be at the forefront of technology innovation, leading a diverse portfolio of technology projects. Your role will involve managing a team of skilled developers who specialize in distributed microservices and full-stack systems. Together, you will create solutions that address the regulatory needs of the company while ensuring that the technology aligns with the business objectives. You will be responsible for fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment where team members can thrive and contribute to the development of robust cloud-based solutions that empower millions of Americans financially. In this position, you will share your passion for technology by staying updated on the latest trends and experimenting with new technologies. You will actively participate in both internal and external technology communities, mentoring other engineers and occasionally contributing to coding tasks or code evaluations. Your collaboration with digital product managers will be crucial in delivering powerful experiences through cloud-based solutions, utilizing programming languages such as Java, Python, SQL, Node, Go, and Scala, as well as various AWS tools and services. This role requires a strong foundation in software engineering principles, with a focus on cloud computing and people management. You will lead a team that is not only technically proficient but also committed to continuous learning and improvement, ensuring that the engineering community within Capital One remains innovative and competitive.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a portfolio of diverse technology projects and a team of developers.
  • Create solutions that help meet regulatory needs for the company.
  • Stay on top of tech trends and experiment with new technologies.
  • Participate in internal and external technology communities.
  • Mentor other members of the engineering community.
  • Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions.
  • Utilize programming languages like Java, Python, SQL, Node, Go, and Scala.
  • Work with Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases.
  • Manage Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Leverage a variety of AWS tools and services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience (Internship experience does not apply).
  • At least 1 year of experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).
  • At least 4 years of people management experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in a relevant field.
  • 9+ years of experience in at least one of the following: Java, Scala, Python, Go, or Node.js.
  • 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service.
  • 4+ years of experience in open source frameworks.
  • 7+ years of people management experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in Agile practices.
