About the position

At Walmart, technology empowers us, and people lead. As a Senior Manager in Software Engineering focused on Blockchain, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our technology landscape. This position involves providing supervision and development opportunities for associates by selecting and training them, mentoring, assigning duties, and building a team-based work environment. You will establish performance expectations and conduct regular performance evaluations, ensuring diversity awareness within your team. In this role, you will develop innovation strategies, processes, and best practices by leading internal technical teams and partnering with cross-functional teams across the business. You will be responsible for developing assessments of key opportunities, documenting project scopes, and creating long-range plans and project timelines. Your ability to communicate with and influence decision-makers and executives within the organization will be crucial, as will your skill in resolving technology differences across teams through informed discussions. You will lead agile teams for medium-to-large scale, complex, cross-functional projects by reviewing project requirements and translating them into technical solutions. This includes gathering requested information such as design documents and product requirements, communicating status and issues to team members and stakeholders, and ensuring on-time delivery and hand-offs. You will provide leadership to the project team and support business objectives by collaborating with business partners to identify opportunities and address high-priority initiatives. Additionally, you will lead the discovery phase of medium to large projects to develop a high-level design by partnering with product management, Web Operations, project management, business, and user experience teams. This involves obtaining cross-function approvals, driving proof-of-concept, and implementing prototypes to validate ideas. To succeed in this role, you should have a true passion for technology, a desire to mentor and lead others, and a strong understanding of architecture and design patterns. Experience with blockchain frameworks is a plus, as is a background in software languages such as Java, along with related technologies like Spring, Kafka, SQL, and Cloud-based solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Provides supervision and development opportunities for associates by selecting and training; mentoring; assigning duties; building a team-based work environment; establishing performance expectations and conducting regular performance evaluations; providing recognition and rewards; coaching for success and improvement; and ensuring diversity awareness.
  • Develops innovation strategies, processes, and best practices by leading internal technical teams; partnering with cross-functional teams across the business; developing assessments of key opportunities; documenting project scopes; developing long-range plans and project timelines; communicating with and influencing decision-makers and executives within the organization; and resolving technology differences across teams through informed discussions.
  • Leads agile teams for medium-to-large scale, complex, cross-functional projects by reviewing project requirements; translating requirements into technical solutions; gathering requested information; communicating status and issues to team members and stakeholders; collaborating with the project team and cross-functional teams; ensuring on-time delivery and hand-offs and providing leadership to the project team.
  • Leads the work of ten to thirteen engineers for assigned Engineering projects by providing pertinent documents, direction, and examples; identifying short- and long-term solutions and timelines; reviewing and approving proposed solutions; implementing new architectural patterns; and performing design and code reviews of changes.
  • Supports business objectives by collaborating with business partners to identify opportunities; addressing high-priority initiatives; identifying short- and long-term solutions, and leading cross-functional partnerships.
  • Leads the discovery phase of medium to large projects to come up with a high-level design by partnering with product management, Web Operations, project management, business, and user experience teams; obtaining cross-function approvals; driving proof-of-concept; and implementing prototypes to validate ideas.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of Leadership or People Management skills
  • Understanding of Architecture and Design patterns
  • Background experience with at least one software Language such as Java, and related technologies such as Spring, Kafka, SQL, and Cloud-based solutions
  • Strong communication and presentation skills to influence others and gain alignment
  • Foster culture of innovation, continuous learning & development among the team
