About the position

The Senior Manager of Software Engineering for Enterprise Search at Slack is responsible for leading a team that develops solutions to integrate external data sources into Slack, enhancing user experience and productivity. This role involves strategic visioning, team development, and collaboration with product and technical leaders to deliver high-quality enterprise solutions. The manager will oversee both frontend and backend engineering efforts, ensuring effective processes and fostering a psychologically safe environment for team discussions and growth.

Responsibilities

• Defining, evolving, and communicating the team's vision, mission, and strategy across Slack.
• Collaborating with Product and technical leaders to build a roadmap for the team and growing the team to complete that roadmap.
• Delivering team goals in a timely and efficient manner.
• Implementing effective engineering processes and policies.
• Setting and fulfilling the engineering hiring plan for the team, including sourcing, screening, and interviewing.
• Coordinating requests with third-party companies to ensure technical goals are met.

Requirements

• 2+ years of engineering management experience leading productive, high-functioning teams.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent training, fellowship, or work experience.
• Ability to contemplate several, often conflicting, constraints and make rapid decisions.
• Technical experience to discuss architecture and product decisions with engineers.
• Proven history of shipping products with consistent execution.
• Highly organized and thrives in rapid-paced environments.
• Experience in performance conversations and understanding the relationship between objective feedback and career growth.
• Hands-on experience in API design and development, with knowledge of modern frontend engineering and developer platforms.
• Ability to explain sophisticated technical concepts to diverse audiences.
