About the position

As a Senior Manager of Software Engineering at Capital One, you will play a pivotal role in leading a diverse portfolio of technology projects while managing a team of skilled developers. Your primary focus will be on creating innovative solutions that address regulatory needs through the development of distributed microservices and full stack systems. You will be at the forefront of driving a significant transformation within the organization, leveraging your expertise in software engineering to solve complex business problems in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. In this role, you will not only lead your team but also share your passion for technology by staying updated on the latest trends and experimenting with new technologies. You will have opportunities to mentor other engineers, participate in both internal and external technology communities, and occasionally engage in coding or code evaluation tasks. Collaboration will be key as you work closely with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions that empower millions of Americans in their financial journeys. Your technical toolkit will include programming languages such as JavaScript, Java, HTML/CSS, TypeScript, SQL, Python, and Go, along with experience in Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases. You will also utilize container orchestration services like Docker and Kubernetes, as well as a variety of AWS tools and services to build and maintain these solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a portfolio of diverse technology projects and a team of developers with deep experience in distributed microservices and full stack systems.
  • Create solutions that help meet regulatory needs for the company.
  • Stay on top of tech trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, and participate in internal & external technology communities.
  • Mentor other members of the engineering community and occasionally code or evaluate code.
  • Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions that drive powerful experiences for customers.
  • Utilize programming languages such as JavaScript, Java, HTML/CSS, TypeScript, SQL, Python, and Go, along with various AWS tools and services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 8 years of experience in software engineering (Internship experience does not apply).
  • At least 1 year of experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).
  • At least 4 years of people management experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in a relevant field.
  • 9+ years of experience in at least one of the following: JavaScript, Java, TypeScript, SQL, Python, or Go.
  • 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Microsoft Azure, or another cloud service.
  • 4+ years of experience in open source frameworks.
  • 7+ years of people management experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in Agile practices.
