About the position

At Capital One, we are seeking a Senior Manager of Software Engineering with a focus on Full Stack development. This role is pivotal in leading a diverse portfolio of technology projects and managing a team of skilled developers who specialize in distributed microservices and full stack systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating innovative solutions that address regulatory needs while enhancing the overall customer experience. You will be at the forefront of driving a significant transformation within Capital One, working in a fast-paced, collaborative, and inclusive environment. As a Senior Manager, you will share your enthusiasm for technology by staying updated on the latest trends, experimenting with new technologies, and actively participating in both internal and external technology communities. Mentorship is a key aspect of this role, as you will guide other members of the engineering community and occasionally engage in coding or code evaluation tasks. Collaboration is essential, as you will work closely with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions that empower millions of Americans in their financial journeys. Your technical expertise will be crucial, as you will utilize a variety of programming languages including JavaScript, Java, HTML/CSS, TypeScript, SQL, Python, and Go. Familiarity with Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases, as well as container orchestration services like Docker and Kubernetes, will be important. Additionally, you will leverage various AWS tools and services to enhance our technological capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a portfolio of diverse technology projects and a team of developers.
  • Create solutions that help meet regulatory needs for the company.
  • Stay on top of tech trends and experiment with new technologies.
  • Participate in internal and external technology communities.
  • Mentor other members of the engineering community.
  • Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver cloud-based solutions.
  • Utilize programming languages such as JavaScript, Java, HTML/CSS, TypeScript, SQL, Python, and Go.
  • Work with Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 8 years of experience in software engineering (Internship experience does not apply).
  • At least 1 year of experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).
  • At least 4 years of people management experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in a relevant field.
  • 9+ years of experience in JavaScript, Java, TypeScript, SQL, Python, or Go.
  • 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Microsoft Azure, or another cloud service.
  • 4+ years of experience in open source frameworks.
  • 7+ years of people management experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in Agile practices.
