About the position

As Senior Manager II, Software Engineering in Data Ventures, you will be leading a team of over 10 engineers focused on Core Services and Platform engineering. Your primary responsibility will be to deliver the core capabilities that are essential across Data Ventures products. Data Ventures aims to unlock the full value of Walmart's data by developing and productizing B2B data initiatives that empower merchants and suppliers to make better, faster decisions for their business. This role is pivotal in driving data productization from concept to deployment, and we are looking for entrepreneurial individuals to help us in this transformation. In this position, you will build, develop, and guide a high-performing talent pool for the Core Services engineering team. You will engage and guide the team technically, getting involved in design and architecture, and hands-on coding when necessary. A significant part of your role will involve defining a long-term talent development and support strategy that spans across various technology roles. You will also engage with leadership across multiple locations, including Sunnyvale, Bentonville, Reston, and Bengaluru, to set up strategies and priorities for maintaining the platform. You will own and support the delivery of all features for global data engineering and platform initiatives, creating a collaborative environment across geographies to deliver the best services to customers worldwide. Additionally, you will promote and support company policies, procedures, mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity. Providing supervision, mentoring, and development opportunities for your direct reports will also be a key aspect of your responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Build, develop, and guide high-performing talent for the Core Services engineering team.
  • Engage and guide the team technically, including involvement in design and architecture.
  • Define a long-term talent development and support strategy across technology roles.
  • Engage with leadership in various locations to set up strategy and priorities for platform maintenance.
  • Own and support delivery for all features related to global data engineering and platform.
  • Create a collaborative environment across geographies for delivering services to customers globally.
  • Promote and support company policies, procedures, mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity.
  • Provide supervision, mentoring, and development opportunities for associates.

Requirements

  • An Engineering Degree - B.E/B.Tech/MS in any stream, preferably Computer Science.
  • 12 - 15 years of relevant experience in building highly resilient, highly scalable systems.
  • 3+ years of leadership/management experience with a team of 10+ engineers.
  • Good understanding of Java and Microservices.
  • Hands-on experience with Java, SpringBoot, Cloud (Azure/GCP/AWS), Kafka (or other messaging service), Memcached/Redis or any caching technologies, relational DBMS (MySQL, Oracle etc).
  • Experience in writing/reviewing design & code.
  • Understanding of product and project management space with Agile methodologies.
  • Experience with CI/CD development environments/tools: Git, Maven, Jenkins.
  • Demonstrated end-to-end ownership for development and design of at least one cloud-based project.
  • Experience in building extensible platforms and data pipelines is desirable.
  • Strong desire to drive change and ability to adapt to change quickly.
  • Proficient in new and emerging technologies.
  • Ability to balance long-term 'big picture' and short-term implications of design decisions.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including negotiation, facilitation, and consensus building skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area.
  • Experience in creating inclusive digital experiences and knowledge of implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards.
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices.
