Enterprise Technology is the center of excellence for digital technology at Blue Origin, providing oversight and governance to align technology and business strategies. Blue Origin is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Sr. Manager of Software Engineering to join our world-class engineering team in Washington, USA. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in advancing the history of space exploration, contributing to safe and repeatable space flight. As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse group of specialists, technicians, and engineers to develop and provide leading edge generative AI solutions to everyone at Blue Origin. Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the enterprise GenAI engineering team in successfully implementing advanced technologies in Blue Origin systems
  • Hire and staff the software engineering team to execute against the enterprise GenAI goals and product roadmap
  • Develop and provide core infrastructure for enterprise GenAI including large language models, retrieval augmented generation, agentic frameworks, fine tuning, multi-modal ingestion, vectorization, and other generative AI architectural components and techniques
  • Develop leading edge solutions with a focus on enterprise level tools
  • Partner with customers to identify needs and create innovative solutions, working in concert with the product manager to develop and execute against a GenAI product roadmap and capability set
  • Collaborate with external partners like OpenAI, Anthropic, AWS, Google, and other LLM and AI service providers to integrate and securely enable market leading GenAI capabilities at Blue Origin
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership to ensure safe and efficient operations
  • Report directly to Vice President Enterprise Technology and contribute to the overall strategy and objectives of the AI and Emerging Technologies engineering department
  • Own and optimize production and enterprise AI systems, ensuring exceptional performance and reliability, and instrumenting for performance, cost, and quality
  • Work directly with product managers and senior leaders on the roadmap, products, and capabilities to drive an Enterprise level scope
  • Grow and mentor dedicated individuals and future leaders

Requirements

  • Master's or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Physics, Statistics or other STEM degree
  • 8+ Years of Software and systems engineering in fast paced environments
  • 2+ Years in building products that use or incorporate Large Language Models
  • 2+ Years experience developing solutions with AWS Bedrock and Azure OpenAI
  • Ability to support a driven a dynamic environment with high accountability and ownership
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
