About the position

The Senior Manager of Software Engineering at Modernizing Medicine is responsible for leading and managing software development teams, ensuring adherence to architectural and software development standards. This role emphasizes technical leadership, human resource management, and the continuous improvement of processes to enhance software quality and team performance. The ideal candidate will collaborate with various stakeholders to define product requirements, manage project scopes, and drive the overall health of the engineering organization.

Responsibilities

  • Compliment the Director of Software Engineering in providing technical leadership and collaborating with architects and software engineers.
  • Track and enhance the overall health of the engineering organization.
  • Work with software engineers to develop and confirm architecture and design decisions.
  • Manage scope and deliverables for the technical side of the product roadmap.
  • Direct team members to focus on highest-priority projects and development tasks.
  • Lead recruiting efforts for the engineering team.
  • Identify and incorporate opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies.
  • Collaborate across teams to solve problems and resolve technical debates.
  • Assist the director in formulating new strategies for building a high-performing engineering organization.

Requirements

  • 5-7+ years of experience managing engineering teams in a web-based application/service environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, adaptable, proactive, and willing to take ownership.
  • Strong commitment to quality, architecture, and maintainability.
  • Ability to effectively direct and mentor others in engineering disciplines and best practices.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum development methodology (3+ years).
  • Understanding of object-oriented design, SQL, and relational databases.
  • Experience building scalable, globally accessible web applications and platforms.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with application lifecycle management tools for source control, continuous integration, and deployment.
  • Strong project management and product lifecycle skills.
