About the position

At Capital One, we are looking for a Senior Manager of Software Engineering who is passionate about technology and solving complex business problems. In this role, you will lead a diverse portfolio of technology projects and manage a team of developers who specialize in distributed microservices and full stack systems. Your primary focus will be to create innovative solutions that meet the regulatory needs of the company while driving a major transformation within Capital One. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions that empower millions of Americans to achieve financial success. As a Senior Manager, you will be expected to stay on top of technology trends, experiment with new technologies, and actively participate in both internal and external technology communities. Mentoring other members of the engineering community will be a key part of your role, and you may also be asked to code or evaluate code as needed. You will utilize a variety of programming languages and tools, including JavaScript, Java, HTML/CSS, TypeScript, SQL, Python, Go, and various AWS services, to develop solutions that enhance user experiences and meet business objectives. This position requires a strong background in software engineering, with a minimum of 8 years of experience, including at least 1 year in cloud computing and 4 years in people management. You will be responsible for leading a team, ensuring project delivery, and fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment. Your leadership will be crucial in driving the success of technology initiatives at Capital One.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 8 years of experience in software engineering (Internship experience does not apply).
  • At least 1 year of experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).
  • At least 4 years of people management experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in a relevant field.
  • 9+ years of experience in JavaScript, Java, TypeScript, SQL, Python, or Go.
  • 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Microsoft Azure, or another cloud service.
  • 4+ years of experience in open source frameworks.
  • 7+ years of people management experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in Agile practices.
