We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Technical Manager to join our Software Engineering team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in hands-on software engineering, particularly in clearing, business, and capital markets. This role requires a proven ability to lead and mentor a team of 6-8 engineers, driving technical excellence and delivering high-quality software solutions. This is a unique opportunity to combine your technical expertise with leadership skills in a fast-paced, innovative environment. The selected candidate will be required to travel to Chicago up to once per month.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of software engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback.
  • Oversee the design, development, and deployment of Java/Spring Boot applications.
  • Ensure adherence to industry best practices, coding standards, and architectural principles.
  • Drive continuous improvement in development processes and tools.
  • Contribute actively to coding tasks, leveraging expertise in full stack development with Java, Spring Boot, and related technologies.
  • Design and implement scalable, high-performance applications using Docker containers and Kubernetes orchestration.
  • Work with Object-Relational Mapping (ORM) frameworks and PostgreSQL databases.
  • Collaborate with product managers, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to define project scope, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Manage project resources effectively, ensuring timely completion of milestones.
  • Communicate project status regularly to stakeholders, highlighting risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Apply knowledge of clearing, business, and capital markets to guide technical decisions and ensure alignment with business goals.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies, identifying opportunities for innovation.
  • Support clearing ops team and the engineering team with any operational issues with the system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of hands-on software development experience using Java and Spring Boot.
  • 5+ years of experience in a technical leadership role, managing software engineering teams.
  • Proven track record of delivering complex software projects on time and within budget.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, ORM frameworks, and PostgreSQL databases.
  • Strong understanding of clearing, business, and capital markets.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a focus on results.
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with a passion for technology and innovation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Knowledge of financial messaging protocols (FIX).
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies.
  • Familiar with Ruby and Mongo DB.
