About the position

The Senior Manager of Software Engineering is responsible for overseeing the design and development of systems software and applications. This role involves managing a large team of software engineers, ensuring the delivery of high-quality products, and maintaining strong vendor relationships. The manager will also be accountable for architectural decisions, performance, and quality of the software, while aligning with strategic goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the activities of a large sector of software engineers to provide desired functionality to products and services.
  • Give product direction and feedback to the Product Manager, ensuring accountability for architecture and performance.
  • Oversee the development, testing, and implementation of software that meets established specifications.
  • Build software engineering action plans from strategic goals and manage agile teams in a continuous integration environment.
  • Interact with executive management regarding development issues and opportunities.
  • Manage vendor relationships, including scope determination and SLA adherence, driving continuous improvement.
  • Ensure delivery against agreed SLAs and overall service delivery of operational activities.
  • Develop and manage budgets for the functional area, ensuring alignment with goals and objectives.
  • Prepare and present reports to all levels of leadership and staff, influencing individuals within and outside the IT department.
  • Stay abreast of industry best practices and leverage partnerships to meet business needs.
  • Oversee and manage managers and individual contributors, ensuring ongoing training and development of direct reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 6 years of experience in Engineering, Software Engineering, Architecture or related field OR High School/GED and at least 9 years of experience in Engineering, Software Engineering, Architecture or related field.
  • Experience with programming languages for online applications, microservices, mobile applications or deployment automation.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization, including the executive level.
  • Experience with vendor and vendor contract management, including SLA review.
  • Experience diagnosing, isolating, and resolving complex issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems.
  • At least 2 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
  • At least 3 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross functional team leadership.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience managing Cloud Native or mobile native engineering teams.
  • Experience designing/building complex applications/automation.
  • Experience identifying operational issues and recommending/implementing strategies to resolve.
