About the position

As a Senior Manager in Software Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in leading a team that collaborates closely with our U.S. stores and eCommerce business. Your primary focus will be on empowering team members, stores, and merchants through technological innovation. This includes enhancing customer experiences across various platforms, including online shopping, mobile applications, and in-store services. You will be responsible for driving the technical vision and strategy for the engineering team, ensuring that we stay at the forefront of cutting-edge technologies and best practices in software engineering. In this role, you will leverage your business acumen to comprehend the broader business context of your work. You will make informed decisions that align with the overall leadership vision and strategy, identifying opportunities to utilize technology to drive significant business outcomes. Managing a team of highly skilled engineers, you will foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment, facilitating team meetings, code reviews, and knowledge-sharing sessions to promote continuous learning and professional development. Project management will also be a key aspect of your responsibilities. You will coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure that projects are delivered on time and within budget, while monitoring project progress, managing risks, and maintaining high standards of quality. As a mentor, you will provide guidance to team members, promoting a culture of learning and growth within the team. Responsibilities

  • Drive the technical vision and strategy for the engineering team.
  • Stay current with cutting-edge technologies and best practices in software engineering.
  • Comprehend the business context of the work and make informed decisions that align with leadership vision.
  • Manage a team of highly skilled engineers and foster a positive work environment.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Monitor project progress, manage risks, and ensure high standards of quality.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to team members, promoting continuous learning.
  • Facilitate team meetings, code reviews, and knowledge sharing sessions.

Requirements

  • 12 - 15 years of relevant experience in building highly resilient, highly scalable systems.
  • Experience leading teams and people in a technical capacity.
  • Experience with agile frameworks and facilitating ceremonies.
  • An Engineering Degree - B.E/B.Tech/MS in any stream - Computer Science preferred.
  • Problem solving ability and a servant leadership attitude.
  • Strong competencies in planning, communication, and stakeholder management.
  • CI/CD experience including automated Testing experience with a mindset to build self-testing code.
  • Well-rounded experience in backend design and architecture.
  • Understanding of React and web development from a system, business, and enterprise perspective.
  • Proficiency in Java and/or other enterprise stack programming languages.
  • Experience in architecting enterprise systems and solid knowledge of asynchronous programming.
  • A high standard for code quality and ability to hold contributors accountable.
  • Strategic thinking and ability to craft vision and technology strategy.
  • Stellar collaboration and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences and knowledge of implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards.
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices.
