About the position

As a Senior Manager in Software Engineering at Warner Bros. Discovery, you will play a pivotal role in leveraging software-based solutions to tackle complex data-driven challenges. Your primary focus will be on scaling existing data offerings and establishing a robust technical strategy that empowers engineers and leaders within the Data Platform. You will gain a comprehensive understanding of our digital streaming service, utilizing your expertise in engineering, infrastructure, data, and cloud technologies to enhance our technical ecosystem. In this role, you will be responsible for developing platform tools and frameworks that meet the high standards of open-source projects. You will engage closely with the engineering community, ensuring that these tools are open-sourced upon reaching maturity. Your work will involve implementing cutting-edge AI/ML techniques, including Generative AI, to improve the efficiency of our platform and data engineering processes. You will create user-friendly tools that enhance data processing, information retrieval, governance, and data quality, all while maintaining cost-effectiveness. You will promote a culture of experimentation and data-driven innovation, inspiring and motivating your team through presentations and speaking opportunities. As the owner of the end-to-end architecture of the data platform, you will ensure its efficiency, security, and governance. Collaboration will be key, as you work with other engineers to design and build optimal platform solutions. Additionally, you will assist in hiring, mentoring, and coaching engineers, fostering a team environment that prioritizes empathy, diversity, and inclusion.

Responsibilities

• Develop platform tools and frameworks to the same standard as seen in open-source projects.
• Engage closely with the engineering community and open source them upon reaching maturity.
• Implement cutting-edge AI/ML techniques, including Generative AI, to boost the efficiency of the platform and data engineering processes.
• Create tools and frameworks that enhance data processing, information retrieval, governance, and data quality in a cost-effective and user-friendly manner.
• Promote a culture of experimentation and data-driven innovation.
• Inspire and motivate through internal and external presentations and other speaking opportunities.
• Own the end-to-end architecture of the data platform, ensuring its efficiency, cost-effectiveness, security, and governance.
• Collaborate closely with other engineers to design and build an optimal and cost-efficient platform solution.
• Work in partnership with other engineers and managers to design and develop foundational elements of the platform.
• Assist in hiring, mentoring, and coaching engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or similar discipline.
• 10+ years of commendable track record of delivering complex software engineering systems and platforms.
• 10+ years of programming experience using Python/Java/C/C++ or similar languages.
• 8+ years of experience in a wide variety of distributed systems and frameworks such as Apache Spark, Kafka, Airflow, Kubernetes, Databricks, Snowflake.
• 5+ years of Cloud (AWS preferred) experience.
• Experience with Generative AI models, processes, tools, and frameworks.
• Experience scaling and managing 15+ person teams and in managing managers is a plus.
• Experience leading in a highly cross-functional environment, likely collaborating closely with Engineering, Product Management, and/or Data Science.
• Communication and leadership experience, with experience initiating and driving large scale strategic initiatives.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
• Drive to master emerging technologies and share experiences with team members.
• Ability to understand goals, strategies, and needs of the business as they relate to infrastructure and application development.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in Analytics Tools and Frameworks (such as Looker, Tableau or similar) is a huge plus.
• Experience in building AI/ML driven platform is a huge plus.
