About the position

The Senior Manager of Software Engineering at Modernizing Medicine is responsible for leading and managing software development teams, providing technical leadership, and ensuring adherence to architectural and software development standards. This role focuses on enhancing the engineering organization's health, collaborating with various teams to meet product requirements, and driving process improvements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development, a commitment to quality, and a passion for mentoring and developing team members.

Responsibilities

  • Compliment the Director of Software Engineering in providing technical leadership and employee growth.
  • Track and enhance the overall health of the engineering organization.
  • Work with software engineers to develop and confirm architecture and design decisions.
  • Collaborate with internal customers and product management to clarify product requirements.
  • Manage scope and deliverables for the technical side of the product roadmap.
  • Direct team members to focus on high-priority projects and development tasks.
  • Lead recruiting efforts for the engineering team.
  • Identify and incorporate opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies.
  • Manage time effectively to document solutions and scope projects accurately.
  • Collaborate across teams to solve problems and resolve technical debates.
  • Assist the director in formulating strategies for a high-performing engineering organization.

Requirements

  • 5-7+ years of experience managing engineering teams in a web-based application/service environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, adaptable, proactive, and willing to take ownership.
  • Strong commitment to quality, architecture, and maintainability.
  • Ability to effectively direct and mentor others in engineering disciplines and best practices.
  • Proactive engagement with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and design solutions.
  • Ability to influence and energize others toward a common vision.
  • Highly self-motivated and self-directed.
  • Strong project management and product lifecycle skills.
  • Understanding of object-oriented design, SQL, and relational databases.
  • Experience building scalable, globally accessible web applications and platforms.
  • Understanding of application lifecycle management tools for source control, continuous integration, and deployment.
