About the position

The Senior Manager of Tax Accounting at Lockheed Martin is a pivotal role that combines leadership with technical expertise in tax provisions and accounting. This position is designed for an individual who is passionate about tax accounting and is eager to leverage their ASC740 experience in a technology-driven environment within the aerospace and defense industry. The Senior Manager will oversee the Tax Accounting, Forecasting, and External Reporting group, managing a team of tax accountants and ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations. In this role, the Senior Manager will provide guidance and support on all external reporting related to tax matters, including quarterly financial reports, tax payments, and long-range planning. The individual will be responsible for managing the federal tax cash forecasting process, which includes overseeing estimated tax payments and modeling tax legislation and regulations that impact the corporation's business operations. Additionally, the Senior Manager will manage the consolidation process for the federal tax return and assist with special projects as needed. A key aspect of this position is the development and maintenance of critical relationships between the Tax department, Controllers, Treasury, Legal, and various Business Units. This collaboration is essential to ensure that the Tax team has a comprehensive understanding of the business operations, which will inform their strategies and decisions. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, effective communication abilities, and a continuous learning attitude, with a willingness to mentor and teach others in the team.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Senior Manager of the Tax Accounting, Forecasting and External Reporting group responsible for managing a team of tax accountants.
  • Provide guidance, support and coordination on all external reporting of tax matters, quarterly financial reports and payments, long-range plan and tax provision.
  • Manage the federal tax cash forecasting process, including estimated tax payments.
  • Model tax legislation/regulations/other tax guidance that impact the Corporation's business operations.
  • Manage the consolidation process for the federal tax return.
  • Assist with special projects as needed.
  • Develop and maintain critical relationships between Tax, Controllers, Treasury, Legal, and Business Units to ensure Tax has a well-informed view of the business operations.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of public accounting firm or large tax department experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of and experience with tax laws and policies.
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency with rules governing accounting for taxes and SARBOX.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in a leadership role.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Continuous learning attitude and willingness to teach others.

Nice-to-haves

  • CPA and/or Master Degree in Tax, Accounting, or related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of public accounting firm experience strongly preferred (with majority at Big Four or large public accounting firm).
  • 6+ years experience leading teams.
  • Effective executive presence, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and handle multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge and experience in Mergers & Acquisitions (due diligence & modeling) and Joint Venture activity.
  • Experience with Thomson Reuters OneSource, Oracle and Corptax.
  • Experience with AI, Alteryx, dashboards and/or digital transformations.
