RSM is seeking a professional to join its Tax Controversy/IRS Practice and Procedure team within the Washington National Tax (WNT) office. This role is pivotal in advising clients and RSM client engagement teams on complex issues related to IRS procedural and controversy matters. The professionals in this team represent clients before the IRS, handling a variety of tasks including IRS account issues, penalty and interest abatements, ruling requests, IRS examinations, IRS Appeals, and alternative dispute resolution techniques. The position requires a deep understanding of existing tax laws and the ability to navigate the challenges posed by new legislation, judicial decisions, and administrative authority. In this role, you will consult with clients and RSM professionals across the firm on a wide range of tax controversy, tax practice, and procedure issues. You will represent clients before the IRS under a power of attorney, which includes researching and addressing technical issues specific to IRS practice and procedural matters. Responsibilities will involve preparing written communications to the IRS regarding penalty abatement requests, working on IRS account issues, corrections, and reconciliations, and preparing Private Letter Ruling Requests. You will also collaborate with other specialty groups on issues that intersect with corporate taxation, partnerships, international tax, mergers and acquisitions, and due diligence matters. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing service ideas for RSM professionals to address IRS issues, participating in firm trainings, and contributing to external webcasts. You will prepare RSM Tax Alerts, WNT Internal Alerts, Insight articles, white papers, and articles for journals or external publications. Speaking at external tax conferences will also be part of your responsibilities, allowing you to share your expertise and insights with a broader audience.
