About the position

Johnson & Johnson MedTech is currently seeking a Senior Manager for US Communications in the Surgery division. This hybrid role requires three days in the office, which can be located in Raritan NJ, Santa Clara CA, or Jacksonville FL. The Senior Manager will play a pivotal role in managing strategic communications for the Surgery business across the US region. This position encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including internal and external communications, employee and culture communications, executive communications, critical messaging and narrative development, thought leadership, media relations, social media, and campaign activations. In this highly visible role, the Senior Manager will work closely with the Director of US Communications, Surgery, and serve as a trusted advisor to the Surgery Region Leadership Team. A deep understanding of the business, technology development, and market opportunities will be essential to inform an integrated global communications plan that aligns with business objectives. The role will also involve collaboration with various teams, including regional communications, MedTech global communications, Investor Relations, Human Resources, and Legal, among others. The Senior Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing an integrated global communications plan that supports Johnson & Johnson MedTech's reputation as a leader in Surgery, as well as the US Surgery business objectives and the science and innovation pipeline. This includes managing new product introductions, medical evidence, and innovation communications, while also leading employee and culture communications to enhance engagement and retention. The position requires proactive management of media relations and social media channels, ensuring effective communication strategies are in place to address any issues that may arise.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the integrated global communications plan for multiple audiences in support of Johnson & Johnson MedTech's reputation as a leader in Surgery.
  • Manage new product introductions, medical evidence, and innovation communications.
  • Serve as a counselor to the Region Leadership team to implement communications programs and executive thought leadership in support of commercial success.
  • Lead employee and culture communications to enhance engagement, retention, and productivity.
  • Proactively manage results across earned and paid media and social media channels, addressing issues as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in communication, journalism, PR, public affairs, or a closely related field is required.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience managing communication in a company, NGO, government agency, or public relations agency.
  • Demonstrated ability to build deep, authentic relationships with top executives and scientists, and influence senior internal and external partners.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with superior writing and presentation development skills.
  • Proven track record of successful public relations/communications, corporate communication, science communication, product communication, public affairs, and/or media relations achievements.
  • Deep understanding of media and business analytics, traditional media, digital and social platforms, and experience with national and local consumer, professional/trade, and social media.
  • Experience running internal communications programs focused on building culture and activating an organization around shared business objectives.
  • Experience in managing budgets, agency partners, and resource allocation across large critical projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Current or past work experience in both external communications or marketing and organizational communications is preferred.
  • Proven experience in healthcare communications is preferred.
