About the position

The Senior Manager, Vaccines R&D Business Operations at Pfizer is responsible for providing financial management, analytical, and operational support within Vaccine Research & Development (VRD). This role involves liaising with program teams, managing budgets, forecasting resource needs, and resolving funding issues to ensure the successful execution of VRD activities. The position plays a critical role in supporting the overall Pfizer portfolio by leveraging advanced analytical capabilities and collaborating with various disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Liaise with program teams to maintain plans of forecasted and ongoing portfolio funded VRD activities.
• Generate and update estimates of internal and external resources required to execute VRD activities.
• Develop materials required to support funding requests for VRD activities at governance meetings.
• Compile reports summarizing resource demands, potential risks, and opportunities that may impact resource demand.
• Resolve funding or payment issues that jeopardize VRD deliverables.
• Generate and manage VRD operating budgets to agreed targets.
• Perform ad hoc analyses to support business decisions.
• Work with Chief Scientific Officers (CSOs) and VRD program teams to compile details of planned and ongoing portfolio activities.
• Derive candidate and study level cost forecasts using cost models and historical spending information.
• Participate in the creation and improvement of cost models and review data for sensibility.
• Track activity progress and create/update monthly forecasts accordingly.
• Support the population of R&D Finance forecasting tools and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
• Ensure that latest clinical plans are consistent with those maintained in Athena and resolve issues identified.
• Collaborate with management to identify governance required to make portfolio investments and generate necessary documents.
• Generate and calendarize estimates of operating budget requirements for VRD departments.
• Track department headcount and activity to generate ongoing forecasts and identify strategies to meet budget targets.
• Troubleshoot financial issues affecting VRD and assist teams in understanding types of expenses.

Requirements

• BS or equivalent preferably in the science or finance areas with 8+ years of experience in drug or biological development in the pharmaceutical business.
• Understanding of clinical trials and associated budgets.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills required.
• Sound understanding of vaccine development principles essential.

Nice-to-haves

• MBA with 6+ years of experience or PhD or equivalent with +2 years of experience preferred.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, coordination ability, cost management skills, and innovative and problem-solving skills.
