About the position

The Senior Managing Director of Annual and Leadership Giving at Bentley University is responsible for the strategic direction and management of a comprehensive annual giving program. This role focuses on securing annual current use support for the university's strategic priorities while building a future major gift pipeline. The SMD will lead a small team, manage a portfolio of donors, and work collaboratively across departments to enhance fundraising efforts and donor relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, execute, and manage a comprehensive annual giving program to grow the base of annual philanthropy.
  • Utilize innovative approaches and data analysis to drive increases in annual gift volume and dollars.
  • Manage fundraisers to qualify prospects and solicit annual and leadership gifts.
  • Define and exceed team and personal goals for gift revenue and other key performance indicators.
  • Create and refresh portfolios using data analytics to maximize productivity in qualification and solicitation.
  • Develop strategies for increasing giving in the $5k - $100k gift bands.
  • Ensure timely and accurate database entry of information related to donor interactions.
  • Partner with other teams to create comprehensive solicitation strategies.
  • Collaborate with alumni engagement and career development resources to engage prospects and donors.
  • Develop a deep knowledge of Bentley University's culture, fundraising priorities, and programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of advancement experience including annual giving and frontline fundraising.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience managing staff.
  • Excellent listening, critical thinking, and strategic mindset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in CRM donor database usage and Microsoft 365 Suite.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail and meet deadlines.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
