About the position

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer at Tesla, Inc. is responsible for developing manufacturing equipment and fixtures to support early-stage prototype builds, managing suppliers, and characterizing new equipment for production. This role involves creating manufacturing processes, optimizing production layouts, and providing design input for manufacturability improvements. The position requires collaboration with various teams to ensure efficient production workflows and the successful introduction of new products.

Responsibilities

  • Develop manufacturing equipment and fixtures for prototype builds.
  • Determine and procure necessary equipment for manufacturing processes.
  • Work with equipment integrators to design and manufacture production equipment.
  • Manage suppliers during specification, design, buyoff, and installation of equipment.
  • Characterize and validate new equipment for production.
  • Develop new manufacturing processes and optimize production layouts.
  • Perform process analysis, DOE, PFMEA, and capacity modeling.
  • Provide DFM input to the design team for process improvements.
  • Create detailed manufacturing instructions for training technicians and operators.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field (or foreign equivalent) and 5 years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree in the same fields with 3 years of experience.
  • Experience in creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience in introducing new products and processes from prototype to production.
  • Knowledge of chemical dispensing systems and fastening strategies for torque driving.
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturability and Automation.
  • Proficiency in designing production line layouts in AutoCAD.
  • Experience in designing mechanical equipment and tooling in CAD.
  • Familiarity with sensitive ESD components and programming PLCs.
  • Experience in designing electrical cabinets and schematics.

  • Full-time employment with a salary of $140,000 per year.
