About the position

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer for Propulsion at Vast will play a crucial role in the development and optimization of manufacturing processes for environmental and thermal control systems in artificial-gravity space stations. This position involves collaboration with design teams, suppliers, and quality assurance to ensure the successful production of propulsion systems, contributing to the mission of advancing human presence in space.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize manufacturing processes and onboard equipment for environmental and thermal control systems.
  • Design, fabricate, and activate ground support equipment and test articles in partnership with technicians.
  • Operate, troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and modify manufacturing and testing equipment, including pressurized systems.
  • Create and maintain detailed manufacturing plans, assembly procedures, and work instructions.
  • Identify and resolve manufacturing challenges by conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with design teams to provide input on manufacturability, assembly, and test processes.
  • Work closely with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of high-quality components.
  • Perform hands-on assembly, integration, and testing of components.
  • Collaborate with quality assurance teams to establish and maintain quality control processes.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, preferably in the aerospace sector.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (such as Siemens NX) for reviewing designs and creating manufacturing documentation.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Strong GD&T skills, and experience creating and reviewing drawings.
  • Strong understanding of fluid systems, tube manufacturing processes, and assembly techniques.
  • Experience working with paints, coatings, and adhesives in an aerospace context.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to perform root cause analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with testing and troubleshooting fluid components.
  • Skilled in operation of machinery and hand tools.
  • Comfortable working in a rapidly changing, ambiguous environment.
