About the position

Vast is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to support the development of thermal control systems for artificial gravity space stations. This role involves collaborating with design teams, optimizing manufacturing processes, and ensuring the quality and efficiency of thermal hardware components. The position is crucial for the successful design and build of the world's first commercial space station, Haven-1, scheduled for launch in August 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with design teams to provide input on manufacturability and assembly processes of thermal hardware components.
  • Develop and optimize manufacturing processes and onboard equipment for thermal control systems.
  • Create and maintain detailed manufacturing plans, assembly procedures, and work instructions.
  • Identify and resolve manufacturing challenges through root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Work closely with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of high-quality components.
  • Perform hands-on assembly, integration, and testing of components.
  • Participate in design reviews to improve manufacturability and reliability of components.
  • Collaborate with quality assurance teams to establish quality control processes.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, preferably in the aerospace or thermal control industry.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (such as Siemens NX) for reviewing designs and creating manufacturing documentation.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work.
  • Strong GD&T skills and experience creating and reviewing drawings.
  • Strong understanding of fluid systems and tube manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with paints, coatings, and adhesives in an aerospace context.
  • Hands-on experience with testing and troubleshooting fluid components.
