About the position

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer at DRS Daylight Solutions plays a crucial role in bringing new products to production readiness and optimizing existing manufacturing processes. This position requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with leadership qualities, to ensure efficient production and high-quality standards in the manufacturing of photonic engine technology.

Responsibilities

  • Develop manufacturing plans, manufacturing flows, test requirements, and capacity models.
  • Create control plans, use SPC charts and other tools to control quality.
  • Implement lean manufacturing tools on the production floor.
  • Perform time studies, calculate tact time vs cycle time, develop manufacturing flow and capacity plans.
  • Update or create documentation and systems to support AS9100, participate in AS9100 audits.
  • Manage process validation and risk assessments using tools such as FMEA.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose problems with existing products and make assembly, tooling, and product improvements.
  • Monitor yields, troubleshoot issues, and organize internal failure analysis.
  • Review detail designs for manufacturability and producibility.
  • Evaluate and recommend design approaches to meet production requirements for new or improved products.
  • Communicate with senior production leadership to ensure uninterrupted manufacturing execution.
  • Brief customers professionally as the manufacturing engineering subject matter expert.
  • Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer.
  • Lead accurate estimation and planning for manufacturing on all proposals and basis of estimates (BOEs).
  • Examine, tender for, and install new equipment.
  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values, and culture of the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in an applicable engineering field with 5+ years applicable engineering experience (or equivalent combination of education/training and experience).
  • Good understanding of quality control techniques such as DOE, SPC, FMEA, poka yoke, lean manufacturing, etc.
  • Demonstrated application of quality control tools.
  • Great communication ability both verbal and in writing, with a demonstrated ability to perform technical writing.
  • Good understanding of mechanical assembly of small, precision mechanisms.
  • Good understanding of statistics as it applies to industrial process control.
  • Basic understanding of optics.
  • Basic understanding of electronics, lasers, detectors, etc.
  • Basic understanding of semiconductor fab operations.
