Moog Military Aircraft Group is looking for a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer, to support our Manufacturing Engineering Group at our plant in Torrance, CA. Reporting to our Manufacturing Engineering Manager, and you will have a 9/80 schedule onsite work in Torrance, CA. Responsibilities

  • Performing drawing reviews to ensure the application of DFMA principles.
  • Development of quality based and cost effective manufacturing processes.
  • Tooling design for all operations requiring holding fixtures and/or specialized cutting.
  • Performing critical analysis during prove out of manufacturing processes, troubleshooting and revising as necessary to achieve the targeted quality yield and efficiency.
  • Work with the operations team to support continuous improvement activities in the machine shop during the fabrication of complex parts and sub-assemblies.
  • Reviewing existing manufacturing plans on legacy hardware to ensure compatibility of engineering drawings with fabrication capabilities.
  • Making recommendations for improvements and drawing updates to enhance yield and production, as well as the implementation of Automation, Advanced Manufacturing and Industry 4.0 technologies.
  • Research, specify and purchase capital equipment for additional capacity or manufacturing technology improvements.
  • Coordinate with various departments and team members to assure the most effective design and use of manufacturing facilities and processes.
  • Technical ownership of gear production equipment such as hobbers and shapers, to provide technical support, programming support, troubleshooting, fixture and cutting tool specifications, as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in manufacturing, industrial, mechanical or a relative engineering discipline with experience in the manufacturing of aerospace manufactured components.
  • 7 years of progressive experience in the field of manufacturing engineering, preferably with aerospace cylindrical steel components for degree holders, and a minimum of 10 years for applicants without a bachelor's degree.
  • Results oriented team player with effective and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of turning, milling, OD/ID, surface, and jig grinding machining processes.
  • Familiarity with shaping, hobbing, broaching, and gear grinding processes.
  • Strong knowledge of machining properties for various aerospace steels, such as carbon steels, stainless steels, carburizing steels, nitriding steels, aluminum, etc.
  • Moderate knowledge of heat treatment, plating processes, NDT, and aerospace painting processes.
  • Strong knowledge of 3D modeling best practices and principles, GDT, engineering drawings interpretation and creation, fixture and tool design, and inspection methods.

  • Experience with NX & Team Center.
  • Previous experience with creating manufacturing processes for aerospace cylindrical components with gears and/or splines.
  • Strong knowledge of gears/splines manufacturing processes and inspection methods.
  • Experience with CMM (Zeiss) inspection methods and reports.
  • Previous experience in the aerospace manufacturing industry and familiarity with AS9100 requirements.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
