About the position

As a Senior Manufacturing Process Engineer at Abbott, you will play a crucial role in the Abbott Diabetes Care Division, which is dedicated to helping individuals with diabetes lead healthier and happier lives. This position is based in Austin, TX, and is focused on providing subject matter expert software support for a variety of manufacturing processes within Third Party Manufacturing facilities. You will be involved in the design, planning, and support of the introduction of high-speed automation lines, ensuring that the necessary technical leadership is provided in areas such as PLC communications, vision systems, and RFID communications. Your efforts will be pivotal in driving activities at suppliers to ensure that automation and software support are available to meet increased volume demands while adhering to Abbott Diabetes Care requirements. In this role, you will independently design and lead complex engineering studies and experiments, often dealing with multiple variables. You will analyze complex problems, assess their impact, establish probabilities, and draw conclusions that reflect broad business needs. Setting complex design and process requirements will be part of your responsibilities, along with completing documentation in a timely manner and in accordance with business standards. You will also lead and participate in cross-functional teams to support organizational goals, while ensuring compliance with applicable Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. Responsibilities

  • Independently design and lead complex engineering studies and experiments with multiple variables.
  • Analyze complex problems and identify their impact, establish probabilities, and draw conclusions reflecting broad business needs.
  • Set complex design and process requirements.
  • Complete documentation in a timely manner and in accordance with business standards.
  • Lead and/or participate on cross-functional teams to support organizational goals.
  • Understand and comply with applicable EHS policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Science or a related engineering or scientific field.
  • MS or PhD degree is ideal.
  • 6 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree or 4 years with a Master's degree.
  • Good knowledge of software engineering principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in software design and coding.

Nice-to-haves

  • Expert knowledge of PLC programming with Allen Bradley control systems.
  • Expert knowledge of Cognex vision systems.
  • Working knowledge of RFID communications.
  • Experience in generation and execution of software test plans.
  • Experience in FAT, SAT, commissioning, and validation of high-speed automation equipment.
