About the position

The Senior Manufacturing Systems Engineer - Building Automation Engineer at Amgen plays a crucial role in supporting the Building Automation Systems (BAS) within the Engineering Technical Authority organization. This position involves project support, lifecycle management, and providing technical guidance to ensure the effective implementation of BAS requirements across multiple sites. The role emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and sustainability, contributing to Amgen's mission of serving patients and achieving carbon neutrality by 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Provide project support and assist in lifecycle management of Building Automation Systems (BAS).
  • Support capital projects by developing Scope of Work and Sequence of Operation documents, conducting design reviews, and participating in commissioning activities.
  • Perform engineering studies, project feasibility assessments, and cost estimates for BAS installations, modifications, and upgrades.
  • Lead or assist in continuous improvement initiatives for HVAC and utility systems.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement changes to improve BAS system health.
  • Provide support for various Energy Management applications.
  • Establish relationships with clients, Facility Managers, and Maintenance personnel across multiple sites.
  • Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with safety policies and best practices.
  • Support systems via remote access and provide phone support to on-site operations, including during non-business hours.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED and 10 years of Engineering experience OR Associate degree and 8 years of Engineering experience OR Bachelor's degree and 4 years of Engineering experience OR Master's degree and 2 years of Engineering experience OR Doctorate degree.
  • 12+ years as a Building Automation Engineer with an understanding of HVAC and utility systems.
  • Experience with Building Automation System Platforms, particularly Siemens Desigo CC and Schneider Electric systems.
  • Solid understanding of field instrumentation such as temperature, pressure, and flow devices connected to HVAC systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot I/O devices and systems in the field.
  • Knowledge of MS Windows-based workstations, MS Office applications, and CMMS for work order management.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong Utility Plant, HVAC, and mechanical systems background in the Pharmaceutical industry.
  • Experience with Energy Management and Building Analytics applications.
  • Foundational knowledge of networks and Industrial protocols such as BACnet.
  • Experience in a GMP environment and developing GMP documentation related to validated automation/computer systems.
