About the position

The Senior Marine Structural Engineer will lead the design and technical oversight of infrastructure projects, focusing on waterfront and marine structures such as ports, ferry terminals, seawalls, floodwalls, dams, and fish ladders. This role requires a deep understanding of concrete and steel design, along with project management skills to ensure timely and budget-compliant project completion.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of waterfront and marine structures, including pile foundations and associated details.
  • Prepare 100% plans and specifications, collaborating closely with CAD staff to ensure accuracy.
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance to engineers, drafters, and junior staff.
  • Develop and present well-reasoned, technically sound decisions throughout the design process.
  • Manage sub-projects independently, ensuring timely and on-budget completion.
  • Occasionally contribute to Statements of Qualifications (SOQs), including editing sections and project descriptions.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 10 years of structural engineering experience, specifically on infrastructure projects such as waterfront or marine designs.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE).
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, with coursework in steel and concrete design.
  • Proficiency in analyzing and designing structures independently, with strong experience creating detailed concrete and steel drawings (manually or via CAD software).
  • Hands-on experience with structural analysis software such as SAP2000 or similar.
  • Expertise in deep foundations and retaining structures (e.g., bulkheads, cofferdams, floodgates).
  • Strong professional writing and proofreading skills for technical reports.
  • Familiarity with structural engineering codes and standards.
  • Proven project management skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Willingness to travel as required for project needs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with geotechnical and structural engineering software, including EnSoft products (LPILE, APILE, Group) for sheet pile design, mooring analysis, and P-M diagram.
  • Familiarity with codes beyond IBC and ASCE 7, such as EM, API, PIANC, and AASHTO.
  • Background in geotechnical engineering, particularly related to deep foundations or sheet pile bulkheads.
  • Knowledge of seismic design and analysis, including the Mononobe-Okabe method for dynamic earth pressure calculations.
