About the position

The Senior Materials & AI Software Engineer at Oceanit is responsible for developing new materials, processes, and technologies that align with the company's growth strategy. This role involves applying scientific and engineering principles to solve complex engineering problems, leading research and development efforts, and collaborating with customers and junior engineers. The position requires a high-energy self-starter with extensive engineering and scientific experience, focusing on innovative solutions in materials science and artificial intelligence.

Responsibilities

  • Interface with customers and research technical literature.
  • Plan and conduct experiments, leading activities of junior-level scientists/engineers.
  • Perform theoretical and experimental research and development in materials science, nanomaterial fabrication & testing, and electro-chemistry.
  • Assist in managing various development/prototyping programs, including customer interface and planning.
  • Respond to outside opportunities that align with the company's strategy.
  • Provide technical leadership and coaching to less experienced employees.
  • Develop and implement innovative algorithms to solve novel problems.
  • Use standard tools for configuration management and issue tracking, documenting software APIs and user interfaces.
  • Produce clean, elegant, maintainable, and extensible code, ensuring timely delivery of software deliverables.
  • Troubleshoot, test, and analyze problems, determining solutions for new equipment and data gathering systems.
  • Collaborate with staff to design, develop, implement, and maintain software products for high-throughput data processing.
  • Prepare reports on team activities, test performance, and recommend strategies for improvement.

Requirements

  • BS degree in mathematics, computer science, theoretical to applied physics, engineering (electrical, mechanical), or related field required; MS or PhD preferred.
  • Extensive experience in computational analyses and scientific discovery.
  • Proven track record in material science, physics, computer systems engineering, or related engineering fields.
  • Superb technical competency in diverse engineering fields preferred.
  • Excellent written communication and presentation skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Supervisory experience leading collaborative teams preferred.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $90,000 - $120,000 depending on education level and experience.
