About the position

The Senior Mechanical Designer will support facility expansion projects and ongoing modifications at a global automotive OEM's facility in Smyrna, Tennessee. This role involves leadership and administration for various projects, working closely with the Facility Engineering and Project Management teams, as well as vendors. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical design or engineering, with a focus on industrial facilities, and will be responsible for preparing technical drawings, managing projects, and coordinating with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Prepares drawings in accordance with standard technical specifications.
• Assists in the design development of mechanical and electrical industrial facilities systems.
• Collects data and develops design solutions in a manufacturing environment.
• Creates specifications and requisitions for contracted services.
• Coordinates outside contracted support services and maintains effective working relationships with Operations, Maintenance, and Safety personnel.
• Applies basic engineering principles during the development of design solutions.
• Performs all other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in Mechanical Design or Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 5 or more years of design or drafting experience.
• Advanced knowledge of discipline-specific principles, standards, and codes related to manufacturing, equipment, and health and safety.
• Advanced knowledge of layout drafting, design concepts, drawings, plans, and diagrams.
• Ability to project manage small scale projects, controlling cost, schedule, and overall performance of design solutions.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
