About the position

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Amazon Robotics, you will play a pivotal role in developing innovative hardware designs for our cutting-edge robotic systems. Your work will not only involve creating new designs but also improving existing hardware to optimize performance and enhance the overall customer experience. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who has a strong background in designing and analyzing robotic systems, enjoys analytical problem solving, and possesses practical knowledge of robotic design, fabrication, assembly, and rapid prototyping. In this position, you will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to execute product designs from concept to production. This includes defining specifications, designing prototypes, validating designs, and conducting rigorous testing. You will work closely with various departments such as Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality, as well as external vendors, to ensure a smooth product launch and ongoing support. Your responsibilities will also include writing requirements, functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures. You will be expected to exhibit role model behaviors of thorough engineering analysis and take ownership of projects from cradle to grave. This involves designing and adapting holistic hardware solutions for complex problems with fluid requirements. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, vendors, and integrators will be essential to deliver effective automation solutions. Additionally, you will create design experiments and lead cross-functional automation of these experiments, ensuring that our robotic systems meet the highest standards of performance and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Working with an interdisciplinary team to execute product designs from concept to production including specification, design, prototyping, validation and testing
  • Collaborating with Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Quality organizations as well as vendors to ensure a smooth product launch and sustaining
  • Writing requirements, functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures
  • Exhibiting role model behaviors of thorough engineering analysis and cradle to grave ownership
  • Designing and adapting holistic hardware solutions for ambiguous problems with fluid requirements
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, vendors and integrators to deliver an automation solution
  • Creating design of experiments and leading cross-functional automation of experiments

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics Engineering or similar
  • Established background in Robotics or Mechatronic Systems
  • SolidWorks or similar CAD experience and understanding of best practices for part design, advanced assemblies, complex configuration management
  • Hands on experience crafting proof-of-concept models and prototypes
  • Thorough understanding and use of principles, theories and concepts in mechanical engineering and ability to apply them to product design
  • Ability to effectively communicate concepts and write technical documents
  • Experience with full lifecycle and proficiency at completing tasks to meet associated milestones
  • Experience evaluating design, performance and logistical tradeoffs for hardware systems

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the design of complex robotic or mechatronic products and equipment
  • Proficiency documenting designs in accordance with ANSI Y-14.5
  • Experience in electronics packaging including PCBA mechanical design, incorporation of sensors and plastic PCBA enclosures that comply with IEC IP54
  • Basic experience using embedded/firmware programming tools and programming for embedded systems
  • Proficiency with Product Lifecycle Management PLM software and ECO's
  • MS in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics Engineering or similar
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks Simulation or ANSYS Finite Element Analysis tools
  • Proficiency with coding on Arduino, Python or C language firmware/embedded system
  • Experience with DFX (designing for excellence)
  • Experience designing for the human experience/Ergonomics
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to collaborate well with teams
  • Desire and energy to work in a fast-paced agile environment
