About the position

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a mechanical engineer with 8 to 15 years of experience in fueling systems or related industrial systems. This role involves applying technical design expertise while engaging with clients in various sectors, including commercial and military. Responsibilities

• Apply technical design experience in mechanical engineering projects.
• Engage directly with clients and end-users to understand their needs.
• Lead and guide less experienced staff members in project execution.
• Coordinate project studies, reports, and design assignments within the department.
• Assist clients in planning facility improvements related to mechanical aspects of projects.
• Determine project scope, schedule, and budget for various assignments.
• Execute complex assignments using advanced techniques to improve processes and equipment.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited program.
• Minimum of 8 years of related experience in mechanical engineering.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification required.
• Experience in design and construction in commercial or military fuel systems, oil & gas, water/wastewater, or industrial systems.
• Familiarity with industry standards such as ATA 103, API 610, 650, 653, ASME B31.3 and B31.4, NFPA 30 and NFPA 11.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent written and verbal communication.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with airport fuel receipt, storage, and distribution facilities.
• Knowledge of jet fuel hydrant distribution systems and pipeline transport systems.
• Experience with oil water separation systems and fuel piping systems.
