About the position

The Senior Mechanical Engineer position is a 6-month contract role with the potential for extension or direct hire, working for a major defense contractor. The role involves researching, planning, analyzing, designing, and developing mechanical products such as ammunition handling systems and missile launchers. Candidates must be eligible for a secret security clearance and are required to work in a hybrid environment, with three days on-site and two days remote.

Responsibilities

  • Performing technical analysis, testing, and evaluation of moderately complex engineering problems using specialized equipment and computer programs
  • Analyzing and interpreting design specifications, drawings, documents, models, and test results to ensure compliance with engineering standards, military specifications, and product requirements
  • Developing and writing technical documentation, revising existing documentation, and providing input for technical papers or presentations
  • Creating and maintaining product parts, assemblies, and drawings using PTC Creo Parametric 9.0 modeling software
  • Solving moderately complex engineering problems with limited precedents available
  • Ensuring tasks meet cost, quality, schedule, and performance requirements
  • Applying a wide range of engineering design and analytical principles to a complex portion of a technical project
  • Developing and maintaining effective relationships with customers
  • Acquiring and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant engineering disciplines, industry practices, trends, and applications
  • Maintaining a safe work environment and ensuring compliance with safety policies and rules
  • Providing input to project leaders for the development of project plans, schedules, and budgets

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant technical discipline (typically mechanical or aerospace engineering) and 4+ years of relevant experience, or Master's Degree and 2+ years of experience
  • Working knowledge of creating moderately complex solid models and mechanical designs using CAD systems, preferably PTC Pro-E or Creo
  • Ability to solve moderately complex technical design and development problems requiring professional engineering knowledge
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience working with internal or external shops to manufacture designs

Nice-to-haves

  • Good working knowledge of GD&T principles (ASME Y14.5 2009 or 2018)
  • Good working knowledge of Tolerance Stack Analysis
  • 2+ years of experience with Creo modeling and drawing generation
  • Experience with EPDM systems, preferably Windchill
  • Familiarity with relevant military and commercial design standards
  • Familiarity with current computer applications and technologies in applicable engineering disciplines
  • Experience in a military product production environment
  • Experience developing precision assembly tooling
