About the position

In this role, you will have the opportunity to act as a client-facing Senior Mechanical Engineer for hydropower projects. The professional will lead teams, provide direction, and mentor developing engineers. You will be responsible for designing new and upgrade projects for energy owners, which includes hydro turbine new and upgrades, pumped energy storage, turbine and generator bearings, bearing oil systems, generator cooling systems, hydro plant assessments, and capital investment planning. Additionally, you will work on dam and water conveyance projects, including radial gates and large valves, raw water systems, mechanical governor upgrades to digital, fire protection systems, control air systems, compressed air systems, and heating and ventilation systems. This Senior Mechanical Engineer will support Hydropower Projects from one of our regional offices but can be located anywhere near a Black & Veatch office in the US. You will have the opportunity to lead multi-disciplined teams and coordinate with other professionals in the US and Canada. Responsibilities

  • Act as a client-facing Senior Mechanical Engineer for hydropower projects.
  • Lead teams and provide direction to developing engineers.
  • Design new and upgrade projects for energy owners, including hydro turbine upgrades and pumped energy storage.
  • Work on turbine and generator bearings, bearing oil systems, and generator cooling systems.
  • Conduct hydro plant assessments and capital investment planning.
  • Manage dam and water conveyance projects, including radial gates and large valves.
  • Oversee raw water systems and mechanical governor upgrades to digital.
  • Implement fire protection systems and control air systems.
  • Design compressed air systems and heating and ventilation systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related work experience in mechanical engineering, specifically in hydropower projects.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and design principles.
  • Experience in leading teams and mentoring engineers.

  • Familiarity with renewable energy technologies and sustainable engineering practices.
  • Proficiency in engineering design software and tools relevant to mechanical engineering.
