About the position

WSP is seeking a full-time Senior Mechanical Engineer - Hydropower to join their Seattle, WA office. This role involves working within the Clean Energy Business Line, focusing on hydropower and renewable energy projects. The engineer will design mechanical infrastructure for hydropower facilities, assist in project proposals, and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to advance clean energy solutions. The position supports clients in responding to climate change by enhancing the efficiency and integration of renewable energy resources.

Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical infrastructure and equipment for hydropower facilities, including power houses, pump houses, and dams.
  • Conduct energy usage analysis and develop controls, monitoring, and reporting systems.
  • Assist with engineering reviews of permit applications and mechanical design plans to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Prepare project specifications for material and equipment purchase and installation.
  • Review internal and external designs for code compliance and constructability.
  • Attend site meetings and perform inspections during the construction phase of projects.
  • Maintain complete project documentation related to substation design and construction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in mechanical design for renewable energy projects, particularly hydropower.
  • Engineer-in-Training Certification.
  • Familiarity with design codes and standards such as IMC/UMC, NEC, NFPA, NESC, IEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, ASCE, and ASHRAE.
  • Proficiency in design software including AutoCAD, MicroStation, NavisWork, and SolidWorks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Experience in consulting firms and projects related to hydro, solar, wind, biomass, and thermal energy.
  • Engineer license in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, or California.
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) certification.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training.
