About the position

Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering (KIWE) is seeking a Senior-Level Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Lenexa, KS. Familiarity with current drawing and technical tools, programs, and software is essential, as is a strong understanding of design documentation creation and layouts. As part of the Kiewit Engineering Group, Inc., a full-service consulting and engineering firm, you will be joining a team of over 1,700 engineers and design professionals. Our focus is on constructability and safety from the earliest phases of projects to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery. The rapidly growing Industrial Design Group encompasses various disciplines, including process, electrical, controls, structural, architectural, geotechnical, and civil engineering, and is dedicated to the EPC and design-build delivery of industrial projects. This role will involve providing design, coordination, and oversight of mechanical systems typical for biogas, bulk solids material handling, food and beverage, and other industrial facilities, ensuring that all project design calculations and equipment specifications are met.

Responsibilities

  • Provide design, coordination, and oversight of various mechanical systems typical for biogas, bulk solids material handling, food and beverage, and other industrial facilities.
  • Manage the completion of all project design calculations and equipment specifications typical for biogas, bulk solids material handling, food and beverage, and other industrial facilities.
  • Coordinate and communicate all aspects of the project's mechanical design within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Provide oversight and coordination of projects, working with assigned design managers and project managers to meet project budgets and schedules for all mechanical discipline activities.
  • Manage other design partners including construction partners, equipment suppliers, and other engineers and designers assigned to the project or task.
  • Perform detailed technical bid analyses for equipment typical for biogas, bulk solids material handling, food and beverage, and other industrial facilities.
  • Generate and check design deliverables such as PFD's, P&ID's, process simulations, datasheets, and vendor shop drawings in accordance with industry codes and standards.
  • Support the construction team including representing the design team on-site, answering RFI's, and providing creative design solutions.
  • Develop schedules, work assignments, and staffing requirements to ensure successful project completion.
  • Perform early project design work such as conceptual studies, process flow diagram development, mass/energy balances, preliminary equipment sizing and selection, and general facility layout/arrangement.
  • Train, mentor, and advise peers and support staff on proper application of industry standards and best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent engineering program from an ABET accredited four-year university.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification OR Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of industry-related engineering experience.
  • Experience leading an engineering and design team is preferred.
  • Proficient in basic computing programs including the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Preferred experience utilizing AFT Fathom or AFT Arrow hydraulic simulation software (or equivalent).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with biogas systems and bulk solids material handling.
  • Familiarity with food and beverage processing equipment.
  • Knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems.
