About the position

The Senior Mechanical Engineer at AtkinsRéalis will lead and work on various mechanical and process engineering projects across multiple industries, including food and beverage, biotechnology, biopharmaceutical, pharmaceutical, and specialty chemicals. This role involves collaborating with clients to define project requirements, developing engineering documents, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. The position offers flexibility in work arrangements, including in-office, hybrid, or remote options.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical engineering activities to deliver successful solutions for clients.
  • Work directly with clients to define project requirements and deliver solutions within budget and schedule.
  • Develop standard engineering documents from Conceptual Design to Construction documents.
  • Create user requirement specifications, basis of design narratives, and scope definitions.
  • Prepare P&IDs and PFDs, equipment specifications, and datasheets.
  • Conduct industrial facility planning including material, equipment, and personnel flows.
  • Participate in HAZOP documentation and equipment RFP preparation.
  • Design process and clean utilities specifications and provide input for cost estimates.
  • Develop and execute commissioning plans and checklists.
  • Verify the correct implementation of systems and ensure compliance with applicable standards during execution.
  • Support the Project Manager during startup and commissioning phases.
  • Execute projects of varying sizes with a focus on larger scope and higher technical complexity.
  • Ensure the quality of design documents and develop junior engineers.
  • Reinforce safety and design excellence in all projects.

Requirements

  • BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
  • Familiarity with cGMP requirements and clean design practices.
  • Experience writing specifications for piping systems including utility and clean utilities.
  • Knowledge of IBC, IFC, NFPA, and OSHA regulations related to manufacturing facilities.
  • Understanding of industrial ventilation principles and HVAC systems.
  • Experience with handling combustible dusts and start-up/commissioning of mechanical systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Results-oriented with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to efficiently manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Positive attitude and ability to foster teamwork.
