About the position

The Senior Mechanical Engineer position at AtkinsRéalis involves leading and executing various mechanical and process engineering projects across multiple industries, including food and beverage, biotechnology, biopharmaceutical, pharmaceutical, and specialty chemicals. The role requires collaboration with clients to define project requirements, develop engineering documents, and ensure compliance with industry standards. The position offers flexibility in work arrangements, including in-office, hybrid, or remote options, and emphasizes a commitment to safety, quality, and team development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical engineering activities for various projects in the food and beverage, biotechnology, biopharmaceutical, pharmaceutical, and specialty chemical industries.
  • Work directly with clients to define project requirements and deliver solutions within budget and schedule.
  • Develop standard engineering documents from Conceptual Design to Construction documents, including user requirement specifications and basis of design narratives.
  • Create P&IDs and PFDs, equipment specifications, and datasheets.
  • Plan industrial facilities, including material, equipment, and personnel flows.
  • Participate in HAZOP documentation and equipment RFP preparation.
  • Provide input for cost estimates and develop commissioning plans and checklists.
  • Verify compliance with cGMPs and other applicable standards during project execution.
  • Support project managers during startup and commissioning phases.
  • Execute projects of varying sizes with a focus on larger scope and technical complexity.
  • Ensure quality of design documents and develop junior engineers.

Requirements

  • BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
  • Familiarity with cGMP requirements and clean design practices.
  • Experience writing specifications for piping systems, including utility and clean utilities.
  • Knowledge of IBC, IFC, NFPA, and OSHA regulations related to manufacturing facilities.
  • Understanding of industrial ventilation principles and HVAC systems.
  • Experience with handling combustible dusts and startup/commissioning of mechanical and process systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, capable of managing multiple projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with MS Office and MS Project.
