About the position

Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering (KIWE) is seeking a Senior-Level Mechanical Engineer to join their team in Lenexa, KS. This role focuses on providing design, coordination, and oversight of mechanical systems for various industrial facilities, including biogas and food and beverage sectors. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering and will contribute to project success by establishing and maintaining company standards and tools. The position offers opportunities for flexible work arrangements and requires up to 25% travel based on project demands.

Responsibilities

  • Provide design, coordination, and oversight of various mechanical systems typical for biogas, bulk solids material handling, food and beverage, and other industrial facilities.
  • Manage the completion of all project design calculations and equipment specifications typical for biogas, bulk solids material handling, food and beverage, and other industrial facilities.
  • Coordinate and communicate all aspects of the project's mechanical design within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Provide oversight and coordination of projects, working with the assigned design managers and project managers, to meet project budgets and schedules for all mechanical discipline activities.
  • Manage other design partners including construction partners, equipment suppliers, and other engineers and designers assigned to the project or task and review work progress and results.
  • Perform detailed technical bid analyses for equipment typical for biogas, bulk solids material handling, food and beverage, and other industrial facilities.
  • Generate and check design deliverables such as PFD's, P&ID's, process simulations, datasheets, and vendor shop drawings in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards.
  • Support the construction team including representing the design team on-site, answering RFI's, providing creative design solutions, etc.
  • Develop schedules, work assignments, and staffing requirements to ensure successful project completion.
  • Perform early project design work such as conceptual studies, process flow diagram development, mass/energy balances, preliminary equipment sizing and selection, and general facility layout/arrangement.
  • Train, mentor, and advise peers and support staff on proper application of industry standards and best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent engineering program from an ABET accredited four-year university.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification OR Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of industry related engineering experience.
  • Experience leading an engineering and design team is preferred.
  • Proficient in basic computing programs including the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Preferred experience utilizing AFT Fathom or AFT Arrow hydraulic simulation software (or equivalent).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with biogas, bulk solids material handling, food and beverage, or other industrial facilities and equipment.
  • Familiarity with current drawing and technical tools, programs, and software.
