About the position

The Senior Mechanical Engineer - Iron Roughneck at NOV is responsible for providing engineering support across various departments, including Manufacturing, Operations, and Sales. This role involves conceptualizing mechanical design solutions, producing detailed engineering documentation, and supervising other engineers and designers. The engineer will also be tasked with identifying product improvements and ensuring compliance with company policies throughout the product lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Develop relationships with and provide engineering support to Manufacturing, Operations, Vendors, Sales, Service, and Customers
  • Conceptualize mechanical design solutions for new product design, product improvement, and product changes
  • Produce/check design layouts, detail drawings, assembly drawings, bills-of-material, tolerance studies (GDT) and parts lists
  • Interpret and apply technical specifications
  • Create engineering reports documenting design efforts and results
  • Identify product improvements
  • Perform other work-related tasks as assigned
  • Comply with all NOV policies and procedures
  • Supervise and provide direction to engineers and/or designers
  • Schedule resources and projects to meet company goals
  • Provide technical support throughout the product lifecycle
  • Re and process orders
  • Create and maintain all product related documentation (manuals, spares lists, test procedures, etc.)
  • Produce/check calculations/stress analysis, technical specifications, product information bulletins, service manuals, and design files
  • Select material and re/approve non-conformance reports/material deviation waivers

Requirements

  • BSME degree or other advanced engineering degree, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years of design experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of engineering standards and procedures
  • Self-directed and highly motivated with the ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Work individually or in a design team setting

Nice-to-haves

  • Design experience with oilfield drilling equipment
  • Proficient in designing with the following engineering software: CAD: Creo, Inventor, and/or Solidworks
  • FEA: Ansys, Solidworks Simulation, or equivalent
  • Hands-on approach to problem-solving and design
  • Have knowledge and experience working in or with an ISO and/or API Q1-certified manufacturing facility
  • Working knowledge of industry specifications: API 6A, 7K and/or 8C
