About the position

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for developing design modification packages for mechanical systems at a nuclear power plant. This role involves working collaboratively with a team of engineers and designers to ensure the successful implementation of projects that enhance the infrastructure of the nuclear power industry.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design modification packages for mechanical systems at a nuclear power plant, including piping modifications and system reconfigurations.
  • Perform engineering calculations such as hydraulic analysis, equipment sizing, HVAC sizing, heat load analysis, and pressure loss calculations.
  • Develop mechanical design and procurement specifications.
  • Prepare engineering drawings including Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&ID), General Arrangement (GA), Equipment Plan, and Isometric drawings.
  • Develop material and workhour estimates as well as engineering and design schedules.
  • Exercise sound engineering judgment in assessing problem situations or complex issues, ensuring accuracy and compliance with codes and design criteria.
  • Interface with plant stakeholders to determine project scope/requirements and support construction/implementation activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from a four-year accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering, with 2-6 years supporting nuclear work.
  • Ability to obtain unescorted access to a nuclear power plant.

Nice-to-haves

  • Duke Energy Nuclear experience
  • Master of Science Degree in mechanical or nuclear engineering
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license in the US
  • Experience with fluid flow software (AFT FATHOM, PROTO-FLO, KYPIPE, or equivalent)
  • Experience with Fire Protection and Detection Systems

Benefits

  • Competitive salary ranging from $100,000 to $160,000 based on experience.
