About the position

We are currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer specializing in optics and robotics to join our innovative team in Palo Alto, California. This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment where you will be responsible for the development of cutting-edge medical imaging and health monitoring devices. These devices are crucial for guiding health decisions for both patients and healthcare providers. In this role, you will leverage your extensive engineering experience to contribute to the design and development of complex mechanical products and systems. You will be involved in the entire product lifecycle, from conceptualization through prototyping and into production. Your expertise in motion systems, mechatronics, and robotics will be essential as you work on opto-mechanical designs that require precision and accuracy, particularly in the realm of micro-optics. You will also utilize your proficiency in 3D CAD software to create intricate opto-electro-mechanical assemblies, ensuring that designs are scalable and economically viable for mass production. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering, with a focus on medical devices, consumer electronics, or AR/VR systems. Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping and common machining tools, as well as familiarity with 3D printing technologies, will be highly beneficial. This position not only requires technical skills but also the ability to work collaboratively within a team to drive innovation and achieve project goals.

Responsibilities

  • Develop novel medical imaging and health monitoring devices.
  • Contribute to the design and development of complex mechanical products and systems.
  • Utilize 3D CAD software to design opto-electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Ensure designs are scalable and economically viable for mass production.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive innovation in product development.

Requirements

  • B.S., M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or relevant engineering discipline.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience in developing complex mechanical products/systems.
  • Strong knowledge in motion systems, mechatronics, robotics, and micro-positioners (MEMS, Piezo).
  • Experience in opto-mechanical design, particularly with micro-optics.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (Creo preferred) for designing complex assemblies.
  • Hands-on skills with common machining tools and 3D printers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience designing medical devices, consumer devices, and AR/VR systems.
  • Familiarity with rapid prototyping techniques.
