About the position

The Senior Mechanical Engineer for Stage Propulsion at Relativity Space is responsible for the mechanical and structural implementation of stage fluid systems for the Terran R launch vehicle. This role involves ensuring reliable and efficient operation of fluid systems, including the design and integration of components such as valves and hardware for liquid oxygen and liquid natural gas propellants. The engineer will lead design efforts, conduct verification analyses, and collaborate with various teams to meet the requirements for launching and landing reusable rockets.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct fluids routing and design trade studies.
  • Design fluid hardware mounting structures.
  • Perform mechanical verification analysis of fluid system hardware, including hand calculations and FEA.
  • Design structural mounting hardware for various fluid system components and routing.
  • Incorporate 3D printing methods into fluid system mechanical design.
  • Implement Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or an equivalent discipline.
  • 5+ years of mechanical design experience.
  • Experience with a commercial CAD package (NX, CREO, Solidworks).
  • Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
  • Project ownership experience.
  • Manufacturing experience or experience interacting with vendors.
  • Experience with fluid system components (fittings, seals, valves, regulators, etc.) and system testing.
  • Experience with FEA tools to analyze structural margins.
